Digitization is teamwork — extending beyond company limits. Nevertheless, established companies can adapt them for themselves, because the development of digital solutions needs to progress at a rapid pace, as technological development is occurring in ever shorter cycles today. The processes involved in software development cannot be compared with the time periods that a mechanical engineer needs to develop a new generation of machines. In the past it took years to reach product maturity, but today agile teams provide initial prototypes after just a few months. 

Openness and a new way of thinking 

The interface between man and machine is a critical point in the IIoT. It is precisely the “pain points” that determine how effective the overall solution will be. In other words, the question is how the user’s problems can be remedied in the machine. This issue is at the center of our Digital Innovation Process, in which the needs of the user are always treated equally with the technical aspects. To this end, people from different disciplines work together in a process that involves understanding, observing, refining, and continuous learning. Step by step, they come closer to designing a product that not only functions well technically but is also user-friendly. 

IIoT requires a solid Digital Innovation Process

The creation of new digital business models, products, and services is supported by a well-designed Digital Innovation Process. This consists of six phases in all, designed specifically to focus, develop, and roll out new and scalable digital ideas. To move from one phase to the next, digital products must pass through a series of “Stage Gates”. That’s because Körber Digital is only driven by approaches to industrial business models, products, and services that hold broad future potential for customers. If an idea doesn’t hold that special spark, it will be reshaped or even dropped — without question.
